At the beginning of a lay cycle, after their "day off" my chickens will lay first thing in the morning. The next day it will be late morning, the next day lunch time, the next day late afternoon, and so on. They lay a little bit later each day. I have had one lay as late as 7:30pm. As I understand, many chickens lay on a 26 hour (or so) cycle. I know if I have a chicken that lays an egg in the evening then the next day will be her "day off".
