Laying trouble or question

I have 8 hens, 4 Golden Comets and 4 Columbian Rocks. At first I was was getting 1 egg a day. Then two then three. I got five one day. How long after the first starts laying would you figure it would be before the rest start. All are the same age. Some days I will get two and some days three. What is with the inconsistancy?

New layers are very inconsistent in their laying. They get more regular after a few weeks, maybe a month.
No way to tell judge when one hen will lay based on the others laying. They are all individuals, even hens of the same breed.
I have all one breed. There was 4 1/2 months between the time the first one laid and the time the last two did. All hatched the same day.

You shouldn't have to wait nearly that long for rocks and comets.
