Laying while brooding chicks

Is it normal for a bird to start back up laying before she is done brooding her chicks?

One of my silkies has started back laying, but she still takes care of her five week olds, calling them for food and protects them. I thought they took a break laying until they weaned the chicks off.

I'd call 5 weeks weaned. They'll always be friends. That's about the right time after hatching.
