Laying

I was ready to give up but my girls surprised me. At 21 weeks old they gave me the first two eggs. Now at 24 weeks old we are getting 6 eggs a day. No artificial light so far, but we have bought automatic timers to add lights later when the weather turns colder. I don't know if it will make a difference, but it probably won't hurt.
Extra lighting can actually mess up laying if done improperly. It should have already have started. The amount of extra light need to be slowly increased to mimic increasing daylight, something that will happen naturally after December 21. It seems most people think it's just running a light for a few hours but it is a bit more involved.

i have a question that hopefully someone can answer. does Daylight Savings time affect chickens laying? i was having a conversation with my mom about it and i have read that it affects them, cause you can put light in the coop so they lay more. (i don't put light in there, cause i think it's there break from the summer and fall laying)

i did change food a couple months ago, i was feeding a grower feed cause they weren't all laying yet then when they all started to lay, i switched back to my normal layer feed. can that cause them to stop laying? i'm only getting 3 eggs a day, and i have 18 chickens. like i said 4 are molting but that leaves 14 chickens to lay!

Daylights saving does not change the length of time the sun is up,
it only changes where sunrise and sunset registers on our time pieces.

Ok! so it doesn't affect egg laying?
Daylight saving doesn't affect laying, tho it could screw up your timer if you're using one for supplemental lighting.
BUT.
The shortening days do affect laying, especially in older birds.
Days begin to shorten in June at the summer solstice,
but they really start decreasing more quickly the first week in August.
