I was given 3 one year old guinea, 2 female and one male. From what I’ve read they don’t lay in the winter due to lack of daylight. My question is are they like chickens in the matter that if I put a light on a timer for them will they lay through the winter?

It is more than just that, they are seasonal layers. They are not going to lay year round no matter what you do.

Another distinction from chickens is that they have a breeding season which starts before the hens start laying each year.

Unlike chickens, one to one is the preferred male to female ratio.
