What is the age a guinea will start laying? I have a few wild colored adults that were hatched in the spring. I asume they will not lay until next year, but thought I would ask.

How many years will a guinea lay?

they can lay at 6 months of age

they lay April-October

and they lay for all they're lives (as in the same amount of eggs each year for as long as they live)

Thanks so much for answering.

That is awesome! I have a beautiful flock and cannot wait until they start laying. Should be in October. Unless they laying now and hiding them on me.

Will they mate with any rooster, or do they have to select a mate like turkeys?

they probably wont lay tell next year.

and they choose 1 mate for life so its best to have them paired up

The guineas will each find their own mate, some cocks may take on more than 1 hen.

And yes they'll most likely start laying the spring after they were hatched.

(as for hiding the eggs, they will probably only be doing that if they have a nest, because on days that my guineas do not get let out to free-range the hens just lay in the coop. Also if my hens don't have a nest, they'll lay in the coop or in the run.)
