Hi everyone,
Like some here, I'm a small and relatively new at the art of keeping chickens :)
I have started out with about 30, layers and 7 meat birds. The layers have not started yet, but they are getting there. All seem to be very healthy...except one of the meat birds! She has a posture like she is sitting on her behind and feet stretched forward. :)
She is looking healthy (smallest of all meat birds) and feeds OK, but I can't figure out why she is almost crawls on her behind to get around.
Any ideas? Is she sick or just lazy?...or??
Many thanks

Was the little meaty like this when you first got her? You may want to post her symptoms and a photo of her posture would really help, at "emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures thread."

I'm wondering if she has an injury or a structural defect that didn't show up sooner. Meaties are bred to just about eat themselves to death and have explosive growth overtaxes their organs early.
If they don't get processed at a certain age, they won't live much longer anyway.

Thanks for the reply...dr. diva (as in "drumstick diva") :)
I had not noticed her defect from the beginning. It became very evident about 2 weeks ago. It seems to have gotten worse.

Welcome to BYC!

Meaties can have leg issues from the start. They are carrying a lot of weight around on small legs. But as Drumstick Diva suggested, I would post this question in the emergency section for more help....

I hope you can get this bird back to good health soon!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about the problem your bird. X3 on try posting in the Emergencies forum, but as mentioned above it may be related to her being a meat bird and bred to be processed early.

That is the way they are but is sounds like that one is ready for camp freezer as the meat birds some times have very short life spans in more ways then one and health is one of the great reasons ..
