So, I have 5 chickens, and all of them are now of laying age. The two youngest are just starting lay, small eggs every few days. The problem is that now all five of them, when I let them out of their coop in the morning, eat their feed, graze around the yard eating bugs, and then just lay under a shade tree in my yard for the rest of the day. Out of five birds I've been averaging 1 egg a day for about two weeks now. I'm really at a loss for what to do and any help or advice would be appreciated

This is normal. Chickens only are capable of laying 1 egg every 28- 30 hours.

WOW one egg a week! What breed do you have??? I only get 3 eggs a day and I have 4 hens!!!!

I get 1 egg a day between the five chickens. This has been going on for about 2 weeks. I look in the yard, and definitely check around the tree that they lounge around. Nothing seems to be coming up anywhere. I just can't figure out why they just lay under that tree all day long.

No offense, but what do you want them to do? Your wi-fi probably doesn't reach the coop, and none of their friends have thumbs to text

Seriously, this is what animals do. They eat, sleep, keep themselves clean, and sometimes challenge the social structure. It's probably hot, so they don't want to be out in the sun. The dirt under the tree is probably good for dust bathing, so that keeps them clean and parasite free.

I don't free range, but your birds' day sounds like my birds'. They're more active in the am when it's cooler. The afternoon is spa time in the dirt, and then just napping or hanging out in the dirt.

What breeds do you have and how old are they?
