hello, i have 2 male iranian high flyers. they are considered fancy pigeons. I got them 3 months ago, but kept them inside for a while because of cold weather. They have been outside in their loft for a little over a month now and I just started letting them fly free outside about a week ago. they stay near their loft for the most part, but do range aroud the yard and on to the roof and deck. I just started taking them away from the loft and letting them return. not far away, just down the driveway a bit, just out of site of the house. i toss them into the air, one flys up and flys in circles for a bit but then one comes to the ground and the other follows. then they just sit there. i try to scare them into the air, and they fly a few feet then come back down. or, the just fly up into the trees and stay there for hours. like there doing now. they eventualy fly back, but this can take hours. so, my question is, is this just because they are fancy pigeons? are they just lazy? is it realistic to think you can take a fancy pigeon away and have it return? basicly, i want to know what i can expect of them. givin enough time can i take them a mile away and have them fly home? or will i never see them again if i do so. any info would help a lot! i cant seem to find anything about this in the web. thanks 4 taking the time to read this long boring post...
