I have two girls who rarely leave the coop. At first I thought it had something to do with us having too many roosters. We have been down to one rooster for two weeks now. He is not an aggressive rooster and is still pretty young. They don't seem to be intimidated by him at all. These girls are the oldest of the bunch and they are not laying yet but everyone else is. They also seem to be somewhere in the top of the pecking order so I don't think it is the other girls giving them trouble. In the mornings when I bring out treats the rest of the flock comes running but these girls are usually still roosting. If I come to the coop with the treats they are one of the first in line though. They will come out to eat and drink but usually stay around the pen and coop. Do I just have a couple of lazy hens? And is them staying in the coop most of the day a factor in them not laying? Both of their combs are still pretty pink.
