Lead

I read somewhere that when you are trying to hatch eggs you should make an x on the eggs so you can tell whether the hen is turning them. I blindly followed that advice, and now I'm worried the lead will leach through the shell and damage the chicks. Do you think this is a possibility? I can't believe I didn't think about that before now.

What I read said to make an x with a pencil. How I wish I'd used a Sharpie or ink pen instead.

Modern pencils use graphite instead of lead, so rest easy.

Is it just a regular pencil?

There isn't lead in pencil lead. It is graphite, not really dangerous.
