So, about 5 days after bringing home my baby Pekins, I got *really* sick.

Thought I had a stomach virus or food poisoning or something along those lines. Then just for the heck of it, I googled 'Can I get sick by handling ducks?' and only got about a billion pages about ducks and salmonella. Whoops. I thought that was more of an issue with ducks in a filthy environment. I clean their cage every 1 to 2 days since they are in my living room and I don't want an overwhelming stench of duck poop in there, LOL

Alas, no more kissing my babies on their bills, and lots of hand washing every time I touch anything to do with them- their cage door, food and water bowls, any of it. Hard lesson learned, but it only took once! I feel like such a dolt. With as many weird animals as I've raised over the years, lizards, snakes, you name it, I always knew enough to be super careful with the hand washing. You'd think I would know enough to do the same with three little guys who march around on top of poop all day. Derr!!

Any tips otherwise? I feel so bad that I contaminated myself- again, I thought it really only applied to ducks in filthy living conditions. I want to make sure I'm giving them the best care possible and thought I was doing pretty good but now I'm questioning myself.
