happy to have you join us.

I would recommend you explore the learning center, there are so many articles there to help you learn about raising chicks and managing a flock.

You should also explore the breeds discussions, likely your customers ask a lot of questions about the breeds as well.

First and foremost, familiarize yourself with what breeds your store frequently sells and what they are supposed to look like as chicks. So, so many people here have been the victims of feed store mixups, ignorant staff, and mislabeled chicks. Very frequently, people have been sold straight run Cornish Cross chicks, and were told they would grow to be laying hens. Then they find out that not only did they not get 90% pullets, but that the likelihood of those birds living past 4 months is slim.

Welcome to BYC!

x2 on the Learning Center, it covers a lot of poultry topics. There's also a forum here for non-poultry animals that might be helpful to if you have questions about rabbits and goats:

Good luck to you, always feel free to ask questions. There's a ton of information here and a lot of friendly, knowledgeable members.

Thanks for joining us!

Welcome! With your willingness to research and learn your new job on your own time, you should be running that place in no time! Good for you! This job may turn into a career! "I don't know but I can find out for you if you'll call, come back tomorrow" is a great answer. Then jump on BYC. I'm quite proud of your eagerness to learn. Best of luck!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. It's nice to know that someone who works at a feed store is actually taking the time to learn something about the chicks they sell. Far too often, breeds and genders in the feed stores are mislabeled or mixed up, and the people who work in them don't know enough about them (or care enough) to correct the errors, so if the customers don't have the knowledge themselves, they end up getting something other than what they think they are getting or intended to get. I'm glad that at least some employees like you care.) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck on your job.
