I second what Liz says! Forgot to mention feathers.. Mine were pretty much all feathered out by four weeks so I'm sure that's why your baby is scratching. Whats your ducks name ducky momma?

Nope, I have multiple drakes... and multiple contributing ducks laid the eggs in the nests...

These are 3 that went broody in the same doghouse together on 3 different nests... they ended up combining their nests and they hatched their ducklings together and are now raising them together... working out exceptionally well too, since Wicket has brooded before and the other 2 it is their first clutch...

Blue fawn on left, dark phase grey in middle and grey pied (Wicket) on right... they have 21 ducklings they are raising together... :)

Awesome sauce!!! Too cool!!! You knew I would ask what color type they were didn't you lol love the pied its different!

Not sure... some are whites and have no issues, like white mandarins... but not sure what kind it is so dunno if it's naturally like that or a true albino... if it is a true albino, many of those have sun sensitivity and can also have sight issues/limitations... :confused:

I forgot to address this last night... due to their very strong imprinting, it is rare for Calls to 'fly away'... the biggest worry is them flying into raptor territory... my advice is, train them on a whistle... it's really simple... every time anything flies overhead that spooks them, whistle... after a while you should be able to whistle and get them to dive home for cover... I did this with mine and it works amazing!!

Well poop I thought I come up with that on my own... I started whistling at them when they first started roaming the yard whenever they would go where I didn't want them and I would go shoo them back to safety. I was just thinking what a mamma duck would do ha ha It did seem to work for a while but they are pretty independent of me now. What's awesome for now is I have two purple Martin houses one on each back corner of my back yard. So when the ducks get too close to the back fence the martins swoop around and they come running back lol that's teaching them to stay close!!
