The plan is for a simple 8x8 walk in coop with 2 windows , 4 nesting boxes on one wall and the Roost on the opposite side . The ventilation will be high up where the walls and the roof meet . I REALLY wish my mother in law didn’t give away the Barn full of old fencing and wood but it is what it is so we have to figure something out .we are way way waaaaaaaay out in the country so there are not a lot of free resources around . For the time being we will attach a 8x15 run from Amazon( once more funds are available the chicken wire will be replaced with hardware cloth for extra safety) by spring we should have the back yard chicken proofing finished as well so the girls can forage in the Garden . My MIL dogs are not really trained so keeping the girls in the run while I train the pack is vital!Do you happen to have your coop plans handy?
Are you making it big enough to walk inside of?

Unless they are HUGE.
You may want to stop now before you start building and research open air coops.
HOLD. I'll be right back with a link to a thread I that has some good ideas.
I was really torn when I saw open air coops . It gets really hot in the summer but pretty cold in the winter. We are in NE Texas right at the OK Border . We are usually below freezing at night from November til early March so I was concerned about the cold especially since the coop does not have electricity to connect a heater2 windows isn't going to be enough for Texas heat.
