"I... I want to be your mate." Lea stammered. The scar above Talon's eye shot upwards. "You mean it?" He asked. talon looked behind him nervously. "Aren't there some others that you like?" "No. You were there for me first." Lea said. "I I love you." Lea looked down. Now he hates me! I messed up really bad. Instead of walking away though, Talon nuzzled her mane. "I love you too, Lea. Let's tell our Herds."
Two sunrises later.......
"And now, Lea of FeatherHerd and Talon of RockHerd, you both understand that, in order to be mates, you must spend one Season away from your Herds?" The old Mare rasped. "I understand." said Lea. "Me too." agreed Talon.
"Then go young horses, go to the land of Artemis, and return in the Spring."
Talon and Lea walked away, to return in the Spring.
As we walked, it felt kinda, right. I was at peace with my emotions for the time being.
Talon's hoof-falls were comforting, even though we had left our families.
I can only hope that they will be ok.
As we settled down for the night, Talon gently nuzzles me.
"What?" I ask him sleepily. "Lea, when we go back, can we have a foal together?"
In my tired state, I only answer: "Maybe, Talon, maybe we will have a foal. Your foal. My foal. Our foal."
