I have never found anything in my coop like this before. I found an egg without a shell in the coop. I also found a fleshy chuck of something? I opened it up and it did have fluid inside but not egg fluid. Anything I can/should do???

This might be a stupid question but is it safe to eat the other eggs I get? Will this hen now lay normal eggs or am I going to find these until she dies?

If she lays normal eggs they should be safe to eat, but many hens do not continue to lay normally when they have salpingitis. If a hen did not lay a lash egg, then most would know that the hen suffered from it. Can you tell her eggs apart from your others?

If you feel your birds abdomens, the one that laid the lash egg may feel bloated, and the abdomen may feel hard, or like it's filled with fluid, it depends on how advanced it is. Some birds will develop ascites along with the infection, which is fluid in the abdomen, some will not. Those that live for awhile will slow down and often waddle with a wide legged stance, as their abdomen fills with the lash material. They hide this illness very, very well, so often it isn't discovered until it's been going on for a while, some times it's not discovered until after they pass as some birds don't pass any material to give a clue that it's going on. They may eventually have difficulty passing food through the digestive tract due to the pressure and they can have crop problems and sometimes dirty feathers around the vent as it becomes difficult for them to expel droppings.
