Hello All,

I am preparing to switch my 3-4 month old pullets off their starter food and onto a grower/pullet feed. I have only a few girls living in coop right next to my house and haven't had a problem keeping their space clean and stink-free except for their feed area. The starter feed gets extremely pungent if there is any moisture in the air at all. When I buy their new feed, I'd like to try and mitigate this scent. Any thoughts? My hens are partially free-range as I let them out for about 6 hours a day to forage.

Thanks for the input!

Try alflock pellets and keep out of moisture prone area. Or just feed them the quantity they will eat, and remove rest of food to garage where it will be dry.
Hope this helps .....

Listing the ingredients to your starter feed would help us help you better. Or a photo of the feed tag or a link to the mfr site. If your starter feed has any animal protein (especially fish meal), it can have a bit of a smell.

Also, x2 what cavemanrich said...you could try just feeding them twice a day...feed them just enough that they will finish eating completely in 30 minutes. It might take a few days to learn just exactly how much they want/need each feeding. Not having any leftover feed in their feed area will dramatically reduce any feed related odors.
