Hi there,
We decided to get chickens and being give to over thinking over designing and under acting, i decided the best way to force some action was to aquire the chickens. 3 weeks ago I picked up 22 3 week old scraggly looking chicks. Well I got the coop portion to a habitable state yesterday only to realise that I didn't have any bedding stuff.
It was late on a Saturday Afternoon and the place I would get some was long closed. So as I stood contemplating I was looking at my driveway and the abundant layer of fallen bougainvillea foliage. Mostly the flowers and some leave from the giant specimen we have growing there.
I thought why not so I gathered up a sizable pile and used it layer the coop bottom. I caught the chickens and moved them into their new abode. The seem delighted with the bedding.
Are their any issues with not using store bought stuff?
What about grass clippings (they're very dry this time of year)?
