Leaves for my run?

I just thought rather than the tons of leaves going to waste even though I will have a compost pile I can find creative ways to use them. I will also be using them for mulch in my garden as well.

I use leaves/pine straw in my run & coop. I pile it deep in the fall. The girls love digging through them.

By spring, they are all chopped up. I usually throw some of the litter out into the run so that it isn't as deep during the hot part of summer.

I use a lot of dry fall leaves in the run. Late fall I dump them in the run, the run is walk in and has a roof. I ‘winterize’ the run with clear plastic over the HC cloth (leaving uncovered portion on top for ventilation) - keeps snow out and wind, the chickens love their dry space and scratch the leaves up during winter. Never had problems with matting. I don’t use leaves in the coop though
