Leaving almost 5 week old chicks home alone

Honestly, if it was only getting down into the 50's at night and they will still be in your house, I wouldn't leave ANY light on for them..........but that's just me.

Be sure their feed is full and their waterer is full and GO! If it would make your trip better to have someone come check on them, then you do what you need to do

Personally, I wouldn't, because it's just overnight and I wouldn't want to bother anyone. Now if they had a habit of knocking over their water, then I might.........

Just go and have fun! They're CHICKENS! They are tougher than you think and they'll be just fine

Absolutely, do NOT leave a heat lamp unattended. That is just begging for disaster and could actually invalidate your house insurance if your house burns down.

It doesn't really matter if the temps go down to the 50's at night. First of all, chicks of that age can handle the 50's. Second, unless you live in a cardboard box, the temp in the house won't get anywhere near the outside temp over the course of a night.

DO have someone check on them during that time. I believe that's too long for chicks to go unattended. They can as easily knock over two waterers as one and you have no idea what ridiculous things those babies will try to do in three days. If one of them gets hung up on something or trapped under something, they'll be dead within a day...

I have 5 week olds on our porch(fully enclosed)no light, want them to start sleeping at night. For about a week now they are fine.Sounds like our temps. are similar.

We went camping last weekend and we keep the 8wk old RIR's and 1wk old EE's in the garage. The EE's have a large rabbit water bottle and the RIR's have an auto rabbit waterer and both cages have the pvc feeders that are lasting for 3 days, for now. I have the light for the EE's on a timer. It turns it off at about 9am and back on at 6pm. The heat light is clamped onto my husbands weight bench and the clamps are tied together so it can't be knocked off. The chicks were fine.
