leaving coop door open at night

My coop door is never closed. If I need to close them in there I put something in front of the door opening, but there isn't an actual door since they have a secure run surrounding the coop entirely.

Love it! What is your weather like?, I live in Washington and our winters get pretty cold so I'm worried bout leaving the door open all winter but my coop doesnt have a door to close!

I have actually left the door open all night. I have never closed them in since they are in an enclosed run. This way they can go in and out as they please. i also work grave yard and worried that I would forget one day and they would be locked inside and cook. My run is all home made from a trampoline and I have two manufactured coops. I hope to build a super coop but one day at a time. I have had my flock for a little over a year and continue to add to the population and so far no problems. I think you will be okay.

I have cut out doors in my coops.the coops are inside of runs.the doors are always opened. My runs are are very secure with two layers of wire.and two strands of hot wire.we skirted the runs with wire and have concrete steeping stones around the runs.I have a total of eight man doors in my runs.I have suffered no losses in my flock.

I leave mine open all of the time. I have a pop door with a covered "porch" because of the way we had to off-set the run to fit the space. The run has hardware cloth about 2 feet up over chicken wire over cattle panels, so it's pretty secure. The hardware cloth extends out from the run as well as a digger-discouraging apron. My chickens get up WAYYY earlier than I do, so for that reason plus the additional ventilation we just leave it open. We also keep their food and water outside in the run.

We added the lattice because we live in town, the coop/run is visible from the street and we wanted it to look nice.

Just to the left of the people door you can see the covered porch between the coop and run.

Better shot of the porch. This is an earlier pic before the lattice, and the grass in front of the coop hadn't grown to cover the hardware cloth yet. It's mostly covering the hardware cloth around the run tho...just a difference in when it was put down.
