Leaving light on in quail pen all night?

So, this is better for heat than a red heat lamp bulb?

It's a low visible light spectrum bulb, it costs about $1.50 per 100 watts bulb. Is it better than a $20 red heat lamp bulb? No, but cost effective for providing heat, with out freaking out birds with visible or IR light.

Edited to correct spelling errors.
I'm sure I didn't correct them all

Thanks for the reply. I will consider that.

Ive got a bunch of 6 months old slatebelt bobwhites they have been off heat from the age of 7 weeks of age and been outside from that age they are not exposed to rain other than rain blown in by the wind, this small group of about 20 is in a covered pen that is 4'w x 8'l x 3'h but they will be broke up come breeding season.
Bobwhite are not nice during the breeding season as some become very territorial. You maybe good on space for the time being but if i was you id build a few more small pens to be able to separate if and when it becomes necessary. As for heat if you feel you need to use it, i would use a ceramic type bulb that produces no light during the night as this gives your bobwhite a good nights rest but still emits heat.

heat bulb type for reference

We dipped unexpectedly to -16°F last night. I have about 40 bobs on 1/2" wire in a 3x5' pen (more birds for warmth). The cage is about 4' off the ground. The front is open and covered with a tarp, but the other 3 sides are plywood to the ground. They have a couple of boxes with shavings, and one empty box in their pen. They are a little hungrier than usual this morning and their water is frozen solid, but they are fine.

I'm just sayin'...

Thanks for the links. Yeah, I think the 325 watt is a bit much for this. I'm think I'm gonna try a 250 watt with this theromstat receptacle http://www.pet-dog-cat-supply-store.com/shop/index.php?page=shop-flypage-25504

It won't start getting very frigid here until over in December / mainly January, so it will be a while before I will need some heat on them - (if any).

Thanks for everybody's input.
