Leaving My Chicks or... Waiting?

Should I get my chickls in June or September(please read thread first)?

  • Don't hesitate... just get them! June!

  • Well, you'll need more time to bond and leaving when they're only 1 month doesn't seem good, Sept.

And yeah! However, we do have more time in June. And a bit in July. Should I just get them in June?? Only problem is, they'll be alone(starting July 24th-September 6th) with a person coming to just check their food once a week. They'll be left with a full bucket of food and water, enough to last a week until my friend comes. I know that will be fine for adult chickens, but they'll only be 1 month old! In that state where you're not in the brooder but not in a coop, either!
However, if i get them in September, they'll be a bit cold and I'll be busy so they won't get as much attention.
Help me!
Thanks!

You can't ship less than 3. I would suggest more in case you lose any. Do they even have any breeds available that you are interested in?

Will they be in this brooder until Sept? What heat source (if any) do you plan to use?

My laws say I can’t have more than 3... I’m bummed.
My heat source will be a lamp about 80 Watts or more, usually room temp is 78 Fahrenheit. Yup, Buff Orpingtons.

Sorry to say this but I would wait. My reasoning is a bit more morbid. What if something were to happen and the chicks die? Your friend would be put in the position of having to tell you that something happened to them. Plus what if an emergency comes up and they can't check up on them?
