I have some leftover meatie crumbles (21% protein). I think I've heard that when chickens molt (this fall?), they need extra protein. So is it a good idea to feed my layers the meat bird feed? I know they'd need extra calcium, so I'd mix in oyster shell. Thanks for any advice.

It would be fine if the feed is fresh enough. Any chance you can freeze it?

Should be okay if you can keep it fresh. Feed the oyster shell separately not mixed with the feed.
