Leg band removal help

I bought a bird who has a leg band on it. The bird has been limping and favoring that leg. I caught the bird today and saw that the leg band was biting into the leg. How do I get the leg band off and treat the leg? It looks like the band was put on the bird as a duckling and not removed as the drake grew.

I think its a wire band, I think it resembles one of those spiral bracelets.

If it is a plastic spiral band, you should be able to cut it loose carefully with a pair of finger nail clippers

A sharp pair of wire cutters will do it. The smaller and sharper the
better. You will need someone to hold the duck still as you cut.
You may end up cutting skin but that is ok. Clean it with some
alchohol or hydrogen peroxide.
