Leg Banding Questions?

How many of you use leg bands or your chickens? Is this a good practice?
I wanted to keep my parent chickens separated from any other chickens that I may hatch.

I use zip ties on my adults. Make sure you cut them in to the lock thing real close or they can peck them and pull. For the chicks I've been using different colors of yarn. Just remember to check frequently as they grow so fast they may need changing a couple times a week.

I have used nail polish on the chicks toes nails but, found I had to keep painting them everyday or loose track of them.
