Leg bands for new birds

I dont leg band but I would say when they are 16 weeks old. After you have culled and they are almost grown.

If using the ABA legbands, once placed on the leg...they're intended to be permanent. I was using size G on my bantam cochins and silkies but am moving to H. H is larger and allows the birds to grow up more...show their stuff before I have to place a permanent legband on keepers.

I've used some plastic leg bands that I got from Family Farm and Home here in MI. They are shaped like a key ring thing, and will easliy fit on a young bird, and expand to fit them as they grow. I use different colors just to designate the year the birds hatched or were obtained. Red for spring 2009, and white for spring 2010 for example. That's really the only reason that I use them for now, but I can see that if I had a large flock they could be used for many reasons.
