My favorite brahma roo is hobbling tonight. It seems to be his left leg that he is favoring, and he is bearing no weight on it. I banded him with a nylon zip tie yesterday, and I worried that I may have caused damage with it. However, it was still loose when I cut it off, and the other roo that I banded did not act like he even remembered that his band was there, and was fine. Could it be that the band played a part in his injury, or do you think that it was caused by something else such as a predator?

Also, we do have a horse in the run with the chickens and this brahma has a bad habit of going into his stall. All of the chickens run up under his feet and tug at his tail but the horse never seems to mind. Do you think he might have got stepped on? I am really hoping it wasn't the tie that hurt him as I would never do anything to hurt him, and after all he is the one I am trying to keep. I can't hope but feel bad, and I am going first thing to check on his condition tomorow. I have him seperated with just a few hens in another stall, so he won't be pestered. I am going to try not to worry.

No blood. We examined him all over and even searched through his feathers and didn't see anything. I am completely puzzled. I am considering keeping him in the stall tomorow to let him heel up, depending on how he is doing.

I am a little more relieved now that I have seen several pics on BYC that have nylon ties that were no looser then mine so I am almost certain that it was not me and something else.

I had a girl that limped for a few days. I have no idea why, but I isolated her in a crate for a few days, and she was fine. good luck!!!

Thats a relief. I went over first thing this morning and he looked worse. I was not sure he was going to make it. We have a storm on the way so we need all of the stalls so he will be moved to a dog crate and that is probably the best thing for him, so maybe he want be up and moving on it. I really really would hate to lose this one as he is/was the one I am going to keep for my ten hens. He was panting a little this morning and that made it worse. He will be alone so if he is sick, he will not spread it. It is depressing because this bird's personality is the exact opposite of how he is now, and he dosen't even look like the same bird. Poor guy, I hope he can pull this out.
