This is a 12 day old chick. She is able to hop around and doesn’t seem to be in pain but I’m wondering if this might get worse?

I did do the bandaid thing but her leg is still very bent and it looks like a bulge at the side although it doesn’t seem infected. I tried massaging and rolling but it all just seems very stiff. She does not seem to be in pain when I move her leg around.

I would recommend giving her ample amount of supplemented water to help her heal faster. I would also get some vet tape and brace her legs together. There are lots of really helpful videos on youtube on how to make the brace. Vet tape is nice because it doesn't stick to her skin or feathers.

She doesn’t appear to have splayed legs, so I would not hobble her. It might be a slipped tendon or a leg bone deformity. Her curled under toes can be treated with taping the toes in a normal position on the top and bottom with a little shoe. Some people claim to have successfully treated slipped tendon by getting the tendon back in place and taping the leg, removing it daily to check if it is still in place. Leg bone deformities are permanent, and worsen with growth. The main thing for her is to get enough food and water, and treating with riboflavin or B complex 1/4 tablet daily crushed into a spoonful of water or food. Here is a decent article on how to treat a slipped tendon:

Starting with post 12, read this link about slipped tendon:

This is a good link on how to tape those curled toes:

I had a similar chick. His joints almost seemed fused. His legs were crooked and his foot was curled. I put him in traction with an old sock I cut him leg holes to make a sling and used some yarn, and dangled him from the inside of a large dog crate with just enough room for his feet to touch the ground. I used vet wrap, put a rolled up infant washcloth between his legs for cushion and and used popsicle sticks to help straighten his legs. I also taped a quarter to the bottom of his foot to uncurl his toes. It took 2 weeks I straightened his legs but they ultimately reverted when he put on weight. Lucky gets where he needs to go it’s not pretty but his quality of life is ok. He’s a year and a half old now, and only recently has he been picked on but the picking isn’t exclusive to him. I have one girl who picks everyone’s feathers.
