What happened to him? Do you have him with other cockerels or roosters? What does his head and comb look like? Can you bring him and separate him in a crate and give him sips of water and electrolytes or a tsp of sugar per cup? A chicken sling might help to get him up in front of food and water while resting his legs. Here is a good thread with homemade chicken slings, especially posts 5, 11-14 and 31:

He ended up having to be out down, he was in such bad shape.

We think it could have been mereks, and i panicked but my wise husband pointed me to joels saladins writings on chicken health and i feel better. Im going to focus on improving their immune systems and give them as much free ranging as possible.

I am so sorry. I hate having to do that. I am not a chicken expert by any means, but I have treated both wild birds, chickens, and waterfall with similar issues. It looked very possibly like Merck’s in the pics (in which case nothing could be done), but if you want to try to treat them for something else first to see if it fixes it, if it ever happens again, give them a bit of liquid niacin from a dropper (you can get it at cvs and other similar- even Amazon) several times a day. Takes about 2 weeks but I have had exceptional success with this. Fyi; if it is a deficiency, about 24 to 48 hours after you start the supplement it will not get any worse though may take a bit to improve.

Ducks frequently suffer from niacin (vitamin b 3 deficiency.) Chickens more frequently have riboflavin (B2) deficiency. Giving human vitamin B complex, which contains all B vitamins, probably would work better than using either niacin or riboflavin separately. Since B vitamins are water soluble and excess is excreted by the kidneys, so hard to overdose. I would use 1/4-1/2 tablet daily.
