Leghorn, but brown egg?

So we have two pullets that we thought were Leghorns: White feathers, yellow shanks, single comb. Today I went out to find one of them (Hans) in the nesting box. When she got up, she had an egg - I think her first egg - stuck to her vent feathers. But the egg wasn't white! It was light brown! Can a White Leghorn lay brown eggs?

Nope, but I bet if you can post a picture or two somebody will be able to tell you what you have. I'm not very knowledgable about white chickens, I freerange and decided against getting any because I thought they would be too much of a target for the occasional predator.

Maybe you were accidently sold a White Plymouth Rock pullet. They're heavier in body than a Leghorn, but have yellow legs, single combs and lay light brown eggs. Can you post a pic of your pullet?

Might be a White Plymouth Rock. White leghorns are pretty scrawny, plymouth rocks are fat. Also leghorns have white earlobes/circles on the side of their face. Other than that they look pretty similar...when we got our white rocks the previous owner told us they were a white leghorn/mix.

By the way, I know they're pullets, but my kids named all the others and these two were big and white. Hans and Franz seemed fitting!

Not an expert here but the red earlobes mean they aren't leghorns..

Yeah, those are definitely not leghorns.

You have two white rocks there. aka white Plymouth Rocks.

The good news is they're a great breed!
