I've got 7 hens and a roo. Yesterday was 3 weeks I have had them. The most eggs I ever get a day is 6 so someone is slacking but at this point I am having fun so I don't mind feeding a chicken just to look at her. I went out yesterday in the later afternoon to reefed and check water and the leghorn was sitting in a corner of the run. She got up and I noticed a bit of a hole dug out. Kind of went hmmmm...and didn't give it another thought. Well- sure enough this am- there's an egg in the hole. The coop has 4 nest boxes and for the most part everyone uses the same two. Almost every day all the eggs are in one but occasionally that one is at the opposite end of where they had been laying.. or once in a while two or three eggs will be in one box and the rest in a different one but there seems to be no issue with who uses what box when.. so what would make this girl choose to nest outside? I immediately picked up the egg and put it in one of the boxes in the coop so as mot to encourage the rest and sure enough when I got home the rest were inside. Is this girl telling me something and if so.. someone please tell me what I don't speak chicken yet...well not hen anyway- Bud I understand quite well!
