Hey all!
My leghorns are about 5 months old now and i havent had many eggs, when should i expect full time laying? iam in missouri

Thank you!

I've had two flocks of leghorns. One flock started laying at 20.5 weeks and the other 17.5 weeks old. This time of year I would say give them a few more weeks.

Yes they are very good layers. 5 out of 6 layed throughout the winter but they aren't a year old yet, but almost. I usually sell mine around a year old and start new so I don't know what they do on year 2.

Thanks pal, are they a good laying breed?
They are one of the best laying breeds. Laying depends on age and also on length of day. Days are getting longer, your pullets are getting older, it shouldn't be far away. I think my summer maturing leghorns started laying around 6 months..

I've got some Whitings (McMurray, 2 WTB & 2 WTG) ... They've got Leghorn in them & boy are they layers. Started laying at 20wks, laying everyday. Alot depends on how much sunlight they get, chickens need at least 14hrs of light & takes 20 - 24hrs for the egg to materialize & make it's way out. Some put artificial light out in the coop during the winter months (shorter days).
