My two leghorns usually roost in a particular tree in the front lawn. I can walk up and pull them out of the tree and put them in their house. Well, everyone was there after dinner when I fed them leftover greens, but when I went to shut them in, only one leghorn was in the tree. The other was nowhere to be found. I searched all the trees for 30 minutes. Where do I look???

Here's hoping it just chose a different roost tonight....

We've found ours:
under the car in the garage
on top of the chicken house
on the milking stand in the barn
curled up with the goats
in the nesting boxes
on top of the flourescent light hanging in the barn
under the rabbit pens
and standing in a corner looking confused..... (so dumb sometimes!)

Best of luck!

when my EE was a wee chick i came home to 2 chickens out of their run (she wasnt one of them)i looked high and low for her, and then i went to the front yard (which i didnt think was likely since it is fenced off)i found some itty bitty feathers that were hers. i was really sad. later that night, my neighbor with 8 freakin cats came over and said she had my chicken under her porch

. now that chicken is the most agressive and least trusting. they got out by climbing the chicken wire/flying. they cant do that now sense they are too heavy - now they just fly over it

She came home this morning when Siciliy started crowing. I made sure I was up before him so I could watch where she came from. She came from the woods off the side yard. There is some 'junk' from the old owners over there, so she could have been behind that. She is red faced, so she could be laying and could have been on a nest, but I don't know if she would have left it this morning. At least I know what direction to look in tonight, maybe.

Heck, I found Splash behind the trashcan because the garage wasn't open for him. He's used to the chicken hospital and goes there...it's funny because he hasn't seen it from the outside very much, but he knew where to go. Poor guy also got serviced by Sicily this morning...

What a crazy 12 hours! Anyway, this hen now has a name: "Airhead"

I hate to tell you, but it's a Leghorn Thang!!!
Obelisk and Jerry used to go into one particular pine tree. Then I came home from work late one night and she wasn't in the coop and I would up at 11:30 cutting up bushes looking for her...Then I looked up and I swear that she was laughing at me...She was just lucky that I love her or she'd have been stewed.
I'd say that she took off to lay in peace and quiet. Obelisk has laid under the computer desk, under the end table in the parlour right next to the heater vent (

) and in my son's bed once.
I'm so glad that you found her.

I will have to say, these may be the last leghorns I own. These two are a mess. They jump 10 feet in the air when I reach for the food container or make a move, but they follow me like dogs. I don't understand them!
