I was sold 10 cornish rock chicks from Tractor Supply. 5 are huge, obviously cornish x. But five are the size of regular chicks(~3 weeks or so). They clearly aren't what I paid for so I called the source of TSC's chicks, Privett Hatchery in NM and they said they could either be RIW or legs. Any ideas on how to tell the difference? I would post pics but my phone got broken earlier this evening in a wreck. I'll try to get some up soon. They are all pullets though. And this isn't the first time I've been jipped by TSC. I bought 5 RIR's that turned out to be gold sex links! Good layers so no real complaints but I just thought I'd let everyone know about buying from them. Other threads have said the same things about TSC lol.

White Leghorns have large single combs, and Rhode Island Whites have rose combs. White Leghorns have white earlobes, RIW have red earlobes.

I agree, TSC is the pits.

They don't sell white Rocks? That would be another common white chick possibility. Leghorns have that big, gamey tail on a lightly built body while RIW or WR would have a stout build being a dual purpose breed. I'd look for twiggy legs and a rather big comb as Leghorn signs at this early age. Before we blame TSC, it might well have been the hatchery that tossed the wrong white chick bins together.

Their tails are a bit upright. Is that what you mean by "gamey"?
