Leghorn Question

I agree with SpottedCrow. I think the majority of the Light Mediterranean breeds are pretty crazy: Leghorns, Minorcas, Andalusians, Polish, Buttercups, Pendesencas...etc.

I wonder though, if you let a Cochin, Silkie, or some other relatively calm breed like Brahmas or Orpingtons set on a Mediterranean breed's eggs, would the chicks grow up to be just as nutty, or would some of their mother and the rest of the flocks nature "rub-off" on them?

My 3 are a bit more alert than the rest, but are sedate compared to other people's leghorns I've seen and/or been told about. They'll run right up to you. Not fearful or aggressive, just a bit more "alert". And yes, they lay quite well. I'm happy with them.

I raised 15 white leghorns, sold 7 roosters and had 8 hens, down to 4 but i must say, i got into chickens with this breed because i wanted eggs and there so popular so i purchased this breed, if i could go back i would get almost ne other kind. My hens are so mean to any other bird that is smaller than them that i introduce to the flock. As well as i handled them everyday before i moved them to the coop, about 8 weeks or so, and they wont even come near me.. i honestly have to like stealth walk when i go in the coop to get eggs, so they dont start flying and squaking like crazy and stir up all the other hens and make the broody hens become unbroody. just my 2 cents on the breed!

I guess mine aren't typical or maybe they are just so used to me and the calmer breeds of chickens that it has rubbed off. I don't handle my birds often,so none of them really like it, but if I sit out amongst them, they will gather around me to see "what's up". My white leghorns join with all of the rest. I have 2 currently setting on eggs.
