Is he a RC Dark Brown Leghorn? If so where did you get him. Been looking for some RC Leghorns and have not found any I like so far.

Rob

mine is a RC Dark Brown.... I ordered eggs from a breeder this spring, from the Facebook Brown leghorn page.

Of the three roosters that hatched, one has a single comb, but looks great, one has a super impressively ugly rose comb, and the third looks great, great build, color, comb, etc. Actually, the third one looks extremely good.

All of the females look very good. The tail sets of all of them are maybe a bit low, but they look very close to standard and very high quality. I got a few white rose comb from the same man. Three hatched, all females....one I culled due to sour crop, they other two look very good, and have come into lay way before the dark brown girls. However, one of the white girls has a few black spots on her.

If they are like mine...you move them the quit laying for a couple of weeks. Moving and change of feed is a major stress factor. Age is another thing that interferes so do you know how old the birds were when you got them?
the ad i replied to said 2 yr old birds, the person at the barn didn't seem to know i was coming. and after getting them home i am thinking they are to young to lay. they are lots smaller than others at 6 months i have had in the past. idk.

I currently have an old brown leghorn rooster (was told when I ought him he was old) and I have been offered a 12 month old black Leghorn bantam rooster and I was wondering if it would be worth taking up that offer. I'm not sure how old my rooster's and I'm assuming a 12 month old one will be fertile.
I'm not sure if my rooster is a dud or if he is just servicing the wrong girls (only getting 3 eggs from 8 girls).

The other option is to source another hen house (preferably free) as I free range the chickens and I could have both roosters and let each lot out on separate days.

Also do you know what coloring a black rooster on my brown and silver duck-wings will be?

Thanks any advice will be helpful as I am only new and open to suggestions.

Hummm.... I am not sure what you mean about the fertility question.

Your hens will lay eggs even if there is no rooster at all.

The only reason to have a rooster is so that the eggs can hatch, or if you like roosters and the way they feed the hens, and stuff like that.

Also, if you want a rooster so that you can incubate eggs, I am not sure if a bantam rooster would be able to succesfully fertilize full sized hens.

Sorry, my current rooster and hens are bantams also.

A good rooster, when he finds something tasty, will cluck for all of the hens to run up and eat it.

It is fun to watch. Not all roosters do that, but I definitely prefer the ones that do.

Oh, I can't help you with the color questions.... i have no idea.

As to egg laying......this is the time for birds to molt...in the Northern Hemisphere, and egg production stops or slows down.

You are going into summer......so the days are getting longer, egg prodection should be picking up right now for you....unless they are molting.
