Hi all! I’m new to the chick world! I got 4 leghorn chicks. One of them has some black feathers and it’s feathers/wings are much shorter than the other chicks. Doing my research i haven’t found that to be common with leghorns. Anyone familiar with this? Why would one chicks wings be soo much shorter then the other chicks the same age?

There are different types of leghorns and there are crosses that are created by hatcheries. Example, the California White has black spots on it. It don’t know what you have but it is probably one of those crosses and not a true White Leghorn.
Where did you get them?

I noticed the rooster that i turned out to have was like that. He also didn't grow tail feathers as fast as the girls so keep a watch on its comb to see if it sprouts up there faster than the others.

Got them from tractor supply. I wouldn’t be surprised if this one was a cross between something else. I

I have two whose tail feathers are much shorter than the other two and their combs are growing faster. Yikes... maybe two roosters?

I doubt they are unknown hybrids of something but Tractor Supply has been known to give people the wrong breed of chicks.

I have 14 white leghorn chicks in the brooder right now about that age. If I don't forget I'll look a little closer at their wings tomorrow. Are yours supposed to be white leghorns or california whites?

They were just labeled as leghorns. So I’m not entirely sure which type. Here is another picture where you can really see how much shorter the ones wings are. How old are your chicks? One person at the store told me they were one week and another person said two weeks. I bought them on Monday and this picture was taken today. From looking online at other chicks I’m guessing they’re somewhere between 1-2 weeks.
