Leghorns

If they are red/pink then brown eggs, if white then white eggs - or so I'm told.

What about Dorkings?

i too have Leghorns (appx. 11 wks old) that just starting laying, light brown eggs. they were an "unknown" breed and hatched in my daughter's Kindergarden class. they look exactly like Leghorns (with the exception of one having, literally two, black tinged, feathers that you have to "dig" to find). here is a photo of one of my girls.

Looks like a brown egg laying leghorn to me.

There are breeds that lay a white egg that have red ear lobes. One of those is the new holland and the other is the dorking (already mentioned)

thanks!
since i am new to "back yard farming" i did quite a bit of research. i didn't think that it was possible for Leghorns to lay brown eggs, so i was trying to find out what breed they really are!

Its not that hard to produce a "Brown" egg laying leghorn, as egg color genetics is a polygenic traits, alot of them are recessive and sex linked, I once made the mistake and tryed to REproduce a very prolific production type white Leghorn(not sold to people, just the discarted end of egg laying life hens), but I used a ISA brown rooster over the Hens, as I was doing a inline breeding to REproduce the blood line, I only kept the roosters and gave away the hens, well after 3 generations I thoght I should keep the hens too see how well they layed....well they layed very very well but NOT white eggs, they layed brown tinted eggs, did they looked like leghorns, YUP!! did they have white earlobes? YUP...
