It would be much easier if she was /is barred. I could be breeding true in just a couple of generations.

Well it will happen in two if you hatch enough.
F1s you should get some barred females and some single factor barred males..
Then breeding those should get you some DF males.

I myself consider mine "projects" until they can breed true.
Besides the barring youre also mixing red and buff so you'll need to get that straight too.

Seems if I go F1 son back to mom, I get rid of red. Then breed F2 daughter to F1 son I get 50% barred and buff. No worries about red. Just growing out and testing roos to get double barred. But I probably wont until I need to replace F1 roo. Hopefully that will also keep my color dark too.

Only difference in buff and red is that buff carries the dilute gene. Ive found when they get one copy of dilute they usually end up in between so it's not too hard to breed for or away from.
Your F1s will have one copy so its just a matter of which way you're going and what youre breeding to.
You'll know with the F1s theres a 50/50 chance they breed the dilute gene forward.
