Length of days to hatch

what is the range of time for an egg to hatch. I know it takes 21 days, but what is the earliest and latest they can hatch? We have a 24 day old egg that is completely black and my husband said he felt a tiny shift. Can it be alive? Any info will help! Thanks.

There's always exceptions, but generally 19-23 is going to hatch out healthy chicks. The father you get away from that 21 day average the higher instances of problems you're going to see with chicks. My very first chick I ever hatched -hatched day 24. He has leg problems, but he's almost a year and we love him dearly. I had one hatch day 25 and was too weak to survive. If it's day 24 and there's not even an internal pip, I wouldn't be too hopefull, but anything is possible.
