Chicken butt pic coming at yah! This is my “mama hen” she usually runs the show and I noticed last week she started to molt throughout her body. She’s less than a year old.
All my other hens same batch went through molt last month and recovered just fine and have all new feathers. Maybe she’s just late to the party? Now the only reason I was concerned was because all of a sudden today her bottom and belly are bald! Poor thing and it’s been sooo breezy and cold here. I cleaned the area with gentle soap and water and then after her butt was dry I coated it in Vaseline. I also washed her feet and coated her feet in Vaseline and Nustock ointment because her feet were so swollen and red which was also new. No raised scales, just irritated looking. No evidence of discomfort on her end, but she does seem to be no her usual vocal in your face self. I don’t see any clear evidence of mites or lice, and all my other hens are clear.
Could this just bee significant molt and a case of her feet got too cold? Any other suggestions? Picture attached was after I put the Vaseline on - just fyi
