I let my BR hen sit on eggs she had 8 she hatched all 8 and was a fantastic mother when sitting. She would rise and hiss like a cobra and left blood blisters all over my arms while I checked her water and food and eggs. She brought her babies into the pen with another mother turkey hen and 2 silkie mamas. They all got along great pretty much stayed in their own areas and gave plenty of warning to others coming close. The other turkey hens poults were older they're moved out now to a grow out pen the silkies chicks are still small but the mamas allow alot more freedom now. The bourbon red hens poults are 2 weeks old now and she is a tyrant over her babies she purrs and coos and they run to her and she sits on them until I leave the pen. That's why I don't understand coming home Monday from being gone 2 days and only having 7 poults with zero sign of the body. I come home today from work and there's 6 poults now. But this one looks to be beat up pretty bad missing eyes and all. So the 6 are now in the brooder where I guess I should've put them to start with I just figured as protective as she was they would all do really good and have no worries in there. Lesson learned.

Sometimes even with fierce mama's, baby poultry get taken and go missing
