The black one with the white dot on the head looks like my barred rock, and the two light chicks in the first pic definitely look like my buff orps! Not sure about the rest... still new to this myself!
We're in AZ so our brooder is outside! We currently have chicks not even a week old yet. We just have 18 right now. We have a big dog house in our coop with a 100 watt bulb in it for warmth. BUT we have in our brooder, ducks, chickens, and turkeys! I read somewhere that as long as you have a certain number chicks & chickens to a certain amount of space they all keep each other warm when they huddle to sleep. This has worked for us so far, and were currently on our 4th wave of chickens! ( 3rd wave of ducks, and first wave of turkeys) Yesterday it was 75 here, and today 83*, at night it's been in the 40's. We don't live in the city, we're in the middle of NOWHERE!
It was mid-60's today and DH unplugged their heat lamp all afternoon to use the outlet to recharge his car battery. Nobody complained.
But of course they have been outside for most of their life, so they are used to it.
I've been taking my babies out for 20-30 minutes at a time as well, & they really enjoy "flying" at each other & dust bathing! Please be VERY careful though, if you live in a rural or even semi-rural area, & keep a SUPER SHARP eye out for hawks! The 2nd day I had mine out, I was literally sitting on the ground with them all within arm's reach in front of me when a huge hawk zoomed down from my peripheral vision & almost had a night of good eating! I saw a dark blur in the corner of my eye & just flung my arms out & disaster was averted, but I mean, just barely! It was MAYBE 2-4 feet above them when it threw on the brakes & then took off. Just thought this might save some little fuzzies out there!
