My name’s Alle My fiancé and I are artists and oddity collectors. We spent years traveling through secondhand stores and bringing home whatever treasures we found! Now that our house is full we decided to turn our attention toward the yard. All signs pointed us toward homesteading. We just started a garden and raising chickens this past summer and quickly fell for our new feather friends. Now we have a flock of 53 birds (turkeys and chickens) and a million more things to learn! I hope to use this forum to learn and connect other cool chicken-minded people. Let’s talk chicken!

Thanks I’m always happy to show my girls off! Most of my birds were given to me from friends whose flock outgrew their coop. I consider them my recycled birds lol. I’ve purchased a few from breeders and other backyard flocks. Neither my fiancé or I knows how to build anything and all the prefabricated coops were too small and overpriced. So we started picking up truck bed trailers for cheep and converting them into mobile coops. For the most part they’ve been free ranged but I’d rather figure out a better system for them as I lost 15 birds one day to a predator attack and I definitely want better protection for them. Right now I get at least three eggs a day, only my sapphire gems are laying regularly with it being winter. But many of my pullets have come into lay recently and love taking turns surprising me with the extra egg here and there. As for breeds I’ve had a a lot off different kinds. Mostly silkie/silkie mixes, naked necks, showgirls, polish, cinnamon queens, bantam old English, easter eggers, and others.
