Hi all! After using this site for the last few years, I figured it may be the time to actually join in and be a part of the community!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I am not really new to chickens, but I haven't had chickens long. A couple years maybe. I am definitely still learning. I am here searching for some information on one thing or another at least once a week. Lol.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Right now I have 14 I believe. Though some are presently awaiting a new home.

(3) What breeds do you have?

One is pure silkie and the rest are silkie crosses of some sort. That is partially why I decided now is a good time to join the BackYard Chickens community.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Oh dear. Where to begin. Lol. I'd have to say I love watching each chicken and develop their own personality. I never thought I would say this, but no matter how bad of a day I have had, at least one of them will make me laugh. I have learned how intelligent they can be and how humourous. Not to mention, having silkie/silkie crosses, they are so fluffy and cute!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Some of my other hobbies are hiking, being outside in general, crafting, reading, learning about all kinds of things.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I currently reside in Eastern Ontario, Canada.
I am a single mom to three boys. They are all adults now though, 20, 22 and 23 years old. I am beginning to think they may never leave home though. Haha. Though I am currently staying at my parents looking after their farm as my mom broke her elbow last summer, so I am enjoying the peace and quiet here.
I do have other pets. I have a VERY sassy cat, Sassafrass, and a dog who is a sweetheart, Luna. I also have a pair of peach splash pheasants, Buddy and Buddy's lady friend.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I discovered BYC a few years ago while using Google to find some information on chickens. After stumbling across the site, it quickly became my #1 place to go and look for answers for all things regarding farm birds. I decided now is a good time to finally join because I actually have a question that I would like to ask to see who can help bounce some of their thoughts my way!

I am super happy to be here, there seems to be endless information that is truly helpful. Actually, thank you to this site and some of its members, I was able to save the life of one of my hens who had a terrible case of wry neck. I had never even knew such a thing existed, but because of this site I learned about it real quick and she recovered.
