First flock is 2yrs old, 7 hens. Second flock is less then a yr, except for one hen from the original flock that was bullied and attacked constantly, I got 5 pullets to keep her company. Of course I had to build a completely new coop and run for them.
Today, with only 2 hr left of daylight, I opened the doors to the coops and runs of both coops for the first time.
One gal from each flock decided to stay put.
The others were more then eager to explore.
Some tried to visit the other flock with not so great results. As soon as the sun started to drop, the two flocks tried to figure out how to get in. Most had no problem, but 2 from each coop couldn't, or didn't want to, figure it out. Lol.
With my help, they figured it out.
My 3 dogs were rather confused. One is a lab, greyhound mix(lia), so her chase instinct is 100%. The other two couldn't care. As long as I was outside, lia would listen to me and not engage.
I WOULD NEVER allow Lia unsupervised access to the gals.. but this first outing was successfully. Only issue is the ladies are going to want it constantly.
