In the Brooder
Hi!
I have two 6 week old Cayuga ducklings, a drake and a hen. Today I noticed my once energetic male duck sitting in a corner of his
run while the female was out catching bugs and running around like normal. When he did walk around, he would walk slower than
usual and only gave a half-hearted quack (he's usually really talkative).
I offered him a bowl of water with vitamins in it, and he drank quite a bit, but wouldn't eat. He walks around for a couple of minutes
and then plops down in a corner somewhere. I refilled their pond, and while the hen was ecstatic and swimming in it, he refused to
join her. He pooped once in front of me, and it was quite runny, but still green. I'm not sure if all of his poops were like that or when
he started to poop like that.
He is on a crumble and pellet diet with greens available daily. He has a free range of a fenced portion of the yard during the day and
stays in a pen at night, so that's why I was thinking it was an intestinal blockage, because there are some sticks and rocks around
that he may have swallowed? His eyes are clear, nostrils too, and his breathing is normal.
Please reply with any advice you may have. I recently lost an older hen to egg binding (the egg was probably double yolked by the
look of it) and I can't afford the heartbreak of losing my dear Pip.
Thanks.
