Hi there,

One of my Black Australorps seems to have an impacted crop. So far, I have put her in a separate environment, provided cold water and clean food and syringed 7mls of vegetable oil into her beak.
I assume it is an impacted crop as her crop feels mushy (not hard) and hasn't pooped yet in the separate environment.

I am just wondering if there is anything I have missed, or any guidance on what I should do further. When does she require veterinarian care?

Thank you!
Matthew M

Information
She is 6 months old. She is lethargic, shows reduce activity and is not eating. Her tail is no longer pointed upward.
Symptoms started within the past 5 hours, no other birds are exhibiting these symptoms.
Earlier today she has been eating and drinking well. She does seem to eat lots of bedding (straw), so I assume that is what it is (I accidentally dropped some in the run.)
I have not seen her poop.
I have isolated her and syringed 7ml of vegetable oil into her beak.
I intend on treating her myself, unless she requires the vet.

Impacted crop usually feels firm or hard. If her crop feels mushy early in the morning before she eats or drinks, then she may be developing a slow or sour crop. Does her crop empty by morning? That is the best time to check it.

Hi there, thank you!

This morning her crop wasn't fully empty however was much better than yesterday. It seems like sour crop, how do I resolve it?
This morning she appears much better but only eats grit and drinks water. Haven't seen her eat feed yet.

Advice appreciated 😁
